DobraVaga x Zine Vitrine
7th international zine open call

Submission deadline 29. 9. 2021

We’re pleased to announce the seventh edition of the DobraVaga international zine open call. Interested artists are kindly invited to submit their contribution by 29 September 2021.

Zines_
Zines began appearing in the 1960s and today still represent a medium through which artists, members of various subcultures and others communicate with the public and express themselves. They were created as an alternative to mainstream print media, which is still one of their tasks today. Zines still surprise with the diversity of their creation and appearance, the variety of their roles and topics. They remain an authentic form of communication that is constantly evolving, expanding and taking shape. They are utilised by a wide array of generations, having become popular as a medium especially among young artists.

Open call_
The zine selected from the received submissions will be featured in an exhibition at Kino Šiška (supported with an exhibition fee in the gross amount of 300 Euros), including zine print coproduction in the agreed amount (up to 30 copies). Other outstanding zines will get the opportunity for a solo paid exhibition within the ZINE VITRINE programme at the DobraVaga Gallery.
The submitted zines will be reviewed by a committee of artists and curators active in the field of zines. The committee is composed of Lara Plavčak, Alin Kostiov, Ema Kobal, Lene Lekše and Mihael Novak.

ZINE VITRINE is a section focused on contemporary zine production. It combines a public library/archive collection, monthly showcases, various workshops and a sales programme. It started in Kino Šiška with a pile of zines, a cabinet with a showcase and a desire to offer readers a nook in which they could discover contemporary zine production, which otherwise remains on the periphery. The zine reading room is today located in the DobraVaga space and invites reading and browsing. In addition to the collection, free zine workshops, led by experienced authors who teach participants about various content-visual designs and DIY/DIWO approaches to zine production, will also continue.

Monthly events are accompanied by smaller zine exhibitions, which liven up the DobraVaga showcases. In the interest of spreading different ideas and connecting zine production, authors, collectors and other zine experts and fans are invited to curate the exhibitions. The programme is rounded off by a varied selection of zines for sale, where one can find, leaf through and upgrade one’s bookshelf with current artistic and other zines by younger Slovenian and international authors. ZINE VITRINE is always open to new zine contributions that enrich the reading room. You can also follow the online collection and events via ZINE VITRINE tumblr and facebook
