Zala Kalan graduated in Restoration from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2013. Since then, she has been employed at the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, working in the museum and theatre departments. Illustration falls somewhere in between. In 2017, she designed the masks for the Peter Pan play at the puppet theatre, and in 2019, she designed the animal masks for the play Ariol at the Mladinsko Theatre in Ljubljana. In 2015, she illustrated the programme booklet and designed the lights and spatial installations in the lobby of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre Grand Stage. As part of the Numokk art duo with Lea Zupančič, she prepared a solo exhibition titled Stalker for the DobraVaga Gallery ZINE VITRINE programme, as well as the Humanimal exhibition at Layer House in Kranj and at the Glass Atrium of the Town Hall in Ljubljana. She has participated in various group exhibitions at the DobraVaga Gallery, the Vodnik Homestead, Kino Šiška and the Tir Gallery.
