In her artistic work, Dalea Kovačec explores topics related primarily to memory in relation to various media. In the project Traces of the Past, she looks for connections and changes in the process of remembering and in brain reactions. While looking at family photographs, she recorded her brain activity with an electroencephalogram (EEG), which drew a chart of the brainwaves that were activated in the process of recalling a memory. The result of this experiment is a series of analog photographs that are destroyed and reveal themselves to the viewer only where there is a drawing of the brainwave chart. In this way, the artist emphasises the relationship between physical and mental information, as well as reflects on the intrusion of the digital world into man’s sensory experience.
