Monika Slemc (1994) is an M.A. student of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana, where she graduated under Prof. Zmago Lenárdič in 2017. She has held solo exhibitions at the Meduza Gallery in Koper and at the DobraVaga Gallery in Ljubljana, as well as participated in numerous group exhibitions (Academia Moderna in Zagreb, Improper Walls in Vienna, Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, City Art Gallery Ljubljana, Ravnikar Gallery Space, Equrna, Škuc, Alkatraz, Layer House). In the 2018/2019 school year, she received the ALUO Award for a broad array of achievements in contemporary landscape painting. She is primarily interested in painting, through which she explores the relationship between man and nature in an age of increasing technological advancement. Using various painting procedures, she attempts to direct the gaze of the viewer, trying to steal away their control over the image itself, overcoming and constantly avoiding it. Monika lives and works in Grosuplje.
